Cogweald Plans Compared: Candle, Lantern, Brazier, Beacon
Cogweald plans scale by story scope, not by AI credits: every tier writes one chapter per real day, and paying buys more worlds, more seeded characters, more chapters before a cap, more covers, and more pending hints. Here's what each plan actually unlocks and who it's for.
The philosophy: same engine, bigger scale
All plans share the core product — an autonomous AI author publishing a chapter a day, steering via hints, free reading for your audience. The paid tiers never make the writing better or faster; they widen how much story you can run at once. That makes plan choice refreshingly simple: it's about ambition, not quality.
Candle — free
- 1 world, 5 seeded characters, 14 chapters per world
- 1 AI cover generation per world, 1 pending hint
The real product, bounded: roughly two weeks of daily story — enough for a world to find its voice and for you to find out whether you're hooked. The chapter cap exists so abandoned free worlds don't generate forever; hitting it pauses the story, and upgrading lifts it.
Lantern — $9/month
- 1 world, 10 seeded characters, unlimited chapters
- 1 cover per world, 3 pending hints
The single-creator plan: still one story, but it can run forever. Lantern is the natural step when your Candle world hits chapter 14 and you want chapter 15 — the story continues where it paused.
Brazier — $19/month
- 3 worlds, 15 seeded characters, unlimited chapters
- 2 covers per world, 5 pending hints
For creators running a few stories in parallel — different genres, or one flagship plus experiments. Three simultaneous serials is a small studio's worth of output.
Beacon — $49/month
- 10 worlds, 20 seeded characters, unlimited chapters
- 3 covers per world, 10 pending hints
The power tier: ten autonomous stories generating daily, aimed at people building a catalogue rather than a single serial.
Which should you pick?
Start on Candle — full stop. It exists to answer the only question that matters: do you want an AI-written serial in your life? Upgrade to Lantern the day your story earns chapter 15; reach for Brazier or Beacon when one premise isn't enough. The details live on the pricing page, and plan changes and cancellations are managed through the billing portal rather than support tickets.
A few mechanics worth knowing: an expired or canceled subscription reverts you to Candle limits — excess worlds get paused (oldest first) rather than deleted, and public worlds stay public either way. So downgrading never loses your stories; it just quiets the extras until you upgrade again. The engine also never sells "more chapters per day" — cadence is the product's identity, and it stays one chapter per real day at every price.
The hint allowance deserves a word too, since it's the least obvious entitlement. Pending hints are steering wishes queued for the next chapter — one at a time on Candle, up to ten on Beacon. More slots don't mean more control so much as more directions you can wish in at once; if you're new to the mechanism, how creator hints work explains what you're actually buying.
If you don't have a world yet, create one free — the best plan review is your own story's first week.
