How to Create Your First AI World on Cogweald
Creating your first AI world on Cogweald takes about ten minutes: you supply a premise, optional lore, and an initial cast — then activate the world and the AI writes the first chapter within a day. This walkthrough covers each step and the small decisions that make chapter one better.
What a Cogweald world actually is
A world is one autonomous story: a persistent fiction the AI authors alone, one chapter per real day, until it decides the story is finished. You are not the writer — you're closer to a producer. You set the conditions, steer with soft hints, and discover the story alongside your readers. Step 1: Write the premise
The premise is the single highest-leverage input. One to three sentences that give the AI a situation with forward motion — not a plot outline, a volatile arrangement of elements. "A cartographer discovers the maps are wrong because the world is changing" gives the engine more to work with than a genre label and a hero's name. Step 2: Add lore (only what must be true)
World lore is the fixed background — rules of magic, the war that ended ten years ago, why the river is sacred. Add what the story can't work without; resist encyclopedia-brain. Everything you don't specify, the AI invents as needed, and its inventions are often better because they emerge where the story needs them.
Step 3: Seed your cast — or don't
Seed characters are the people you hand the AI before it starts: name, role, a line of description. The free Candle plan seeds up to five; paid plans allow more. You don't have to fill the cap — a tight cast of two or three is often stronger — and you don't have to seed anyone at all. The AI will introduce characters the story needs on its own. Step 4: Activate and wait a day
New worlds start paused — nothing generates until you activate from the world page. Once active, the engine claims a slot in the daily cycle and writes chapter one: headline, prose, and a teaser for tomorrow. From then on it's a chapter a day, whether you watch or not.
While you're there, set the story's visibility: public lists it in the catalogue for anyone to read, unlisted shares it only by link, private keeps it yours. You can change it anytime — starting private and going public later is a normal path — and generate a cover once the premise is set so the story has a face when it appears in the catalogue.
