There is a museum beneath the city, hidden in the folds between what happened and what almost did. It does not collect fossils or extinct species. It collects extinct futures. Every hall holds a world that could have been: "The Future Where Humanity Colonized Mars." "The Future Where Humans and AI Lived in Peace." "The Future Where Time Travel Was Never Invented." Each exhibit is a living diorama — a preserved branch of possibility, frozen at the moment it died. Visitors come to mourn what never came to pass. The curators catalog them, maintain them, and try not to fall in love with the better worlds. Elias Vance is a junior curator. His job is to receive new acquisitions, verify their provenance, and seal them into the halls. One morning, a crate arrives with no sender. The label reads: EARTH — 2026–2098 Inside, a single glass case. And playing within it, looped and flawless, is his own life — every conversation, every mistake, every choice he has not yet made. A future has gone extinct. And it is his.
