The Coast That Wasn’t There

One cold morning

During a routine coastal survey, Sorrel discovers that Saint Orra’s Nose—an impossible headland shown in a fourteenth-century atlas—is absent from the real coastline. A fresh ink line then redraws the shore on the parchment, and surveyor Tamsin Rusk and archive keeper Merrit Vane arrive, revealing that the map may cause the land to exist; Sorrel tears out the active page and flees with Tamsin before the new coast finishes drawing itself.
