The Beacon Beneath the Mist
That same evening
Orra helps a dying captain escape a collapsing sky-tavern and takes possession of a strange resonant crystal before both the Crimson Veil and Grand Inquisition can seize it. The crystal reveals a newly emerged Ghost Isle in the forbidden zone, where the remains of an enormous ancient flagship wait beneath the mist, and Orra chooses to take the *Morrowfin* there despite Vey’s warnings.

The Sky Withdrew
That same night
Orra convinces Vey to cross into the forbidden zone, and the *Morrowfin* survives the crossing while the leading Crimson Veil ship is lost in the Aethersea. Ghost Isle responds to the cracked beacon by opening an enormous entrance in the ancient wreck; with the Inquisition firing on them, Orra chooses to take the ship inside and glimpses motionless figures waiting in the dark.

The Watchers in White Dust
The same night, minutes after entering the wreck
The motionless figures are revealed as ancient armored guardians rather than survivors. One identifies Orra as a “keel-bearer,” accepts the resonant crystal as a key, and opens a descending route through the wreck while the Inquisition attacks the sealed entrance from outside. Orra chooses to take the damaged *Morrowfin* deeper into the flagship in search of a way out and the meaning of the sleeping course.
- Chapter4
The Course Beneath the Keel
That same descent
The ancient wreck carries the *Morrowfin* into a vast navigation chamber, where Orra learns the route glyph describes a maneuver rather than an escape: restoring the flagship’s sleeping course. The map reveals that the course descends toward the Old Surface, and activating the crystal sends the damaged ship into the depths while the Inquisition continues breaching the outer gate.
