  1. Chapter21

    The Forgiveness of Martha Bell

    That same morning

Ava confronts Martha at the bakery with the photograph and Helen’s confession. Martha admits she signed Caleb into Wesley Vale’s care and lied about the child and Belinda to protect herself and preserve a chance of survival, but she cannot account for Belinda’s final fate. The confrontation becomes public when Doris, Tom, and Lucas arrive, and Ava receives a message that the abandoned phone contains a final recording.

  2. Chapter22

    The Voice Beneath the Snow

    That afternoon

Ava and Lucas return to the Morrow Farm bunker and recover the final recording. Belinda is heard alive after St. Agnes, explaining that she sought the infant because he witnessed the crimes, and Helen records that Belinda left Morrow Farm alive with the unidentified woman from the altered photograph. A receipt for Northstar Women’s House in Two Harbors proves Belinda came back once, giving Ava a concrete destination while her ultimate fate remains unresolved.

  3. Chapter23

    The Name in the Ledger

    The next day

Ava and Silas travel to Northstar Women’s House and find the 2009 intake record proving Belinda came there after leaving Morrow Farm, carrying the red glove and expecting someone to come. Belinda left a note—“SHE KNOWS ABOUT THE GIRL”—and departed with the unidentified woman after calling her “Mother”; Helen arrived shortly afterward and concealed what she learned. The trail turns west toward Duluth, and Ava learns Lucas may have known Helen’s secret about her unborn daughter.

  4. Chapter24

    The Taillight in the Snow

    That same afternoon and evening

Ava confronts Lucas, who admits Helen told him Belinda was alive, knew about Ava, and had been taken west, while he helped keep Ava’s identity out of the case. Dot identifies the dark station wagon as a church-owned vehicle authorized to Tom Greer; a repair invoice shows it carried blood after Belinda left Northstar, placing Tom directly in the westbound trail.

  5. Chapter25

    The Mercy of the Church

    That same evening

Ava publicly confronts Tom Greer during the forgiveness service, and Lucas admits Belinda was alive when the church wagon carried her west. Caleb arrives with a photograph proving June Marlow traveled with Belinda from Duluth, identifying June as the woman Belinda called Mother, though June still does not know where Belinda went after boarding a westbound bus.

  6. Chapter26

    The Westbound Platform

    The next morning

June reconstructs Belinda’s departure from the Duluth bus station: Belinda boarded westbound Bus 418 toward Fargo, carrying the red glove and leaving June behind, while Wesley later saw her alive at a roadside stop before Fargo. June gives Ava Wesley’s cassette and the bus receipt, and Ava decides to trace Bus 418’s route west.

  7. Chapter27

    The Stop Before Fargo

    The next day

Ava and Silas travel to Fargo and play Wesley Vale’s cassette. The recording confirms Belinda was alive and walking at 11:26 a.m. on November 21, 2009, at the Prairie Lantern truck stop outside Mapleton, where she was approached by a man in a brown coat and spoke of proving the truth about Ava’s father. Arlen Pike identifies surviving local records and the likely witness, Harlan Voss, giving Ava a specific next destination while the man’s identity and Belinda’s fate remain unknown.

  8. Chapter28

    The Lantern Keeps Its Light

    That same afternoon

Ava and Silas search the abandoned Prairie Lantern and find Harlan Voss, who confirms Belinda entered the brown-coated man’s sedan after seeing a photograph of Caleb and a Frosthaven sheriff. Harlan gives Ava a faded envelope Belinda addressed to her and reveals that the man returned three days later asking specifically for Ava, proving the westbound trail was aimed at her as well as Belinda.

  9. Chapter29

    The Letter She Was Owed

    That same afternoon and evening

Ava opens Belinda’s letter and receives the direct confirmation that Lucas Crane is her biological father. Belinda explains that the missing infant was a witness, that Helen and Lucas protected Ava through silence, and that the brown-coated man used a photograph and Ava’s parentage to draw Belinda west; Ava decides to return to Frosthaven and trace the man through his temporary plate and financial records.

  10. Chapter30

    The Father in the File

    That same night

Ava confronts Lucas with the temporary plate, and he admits he recognized it in 2009 as belonging to Orrin Rusk, Elise’s father, who was searching for his daughter and the people responsible for the cover-up. Lucas reveals that Helen left behind the name Merrick Saye, a former St. Anselm night registrar who may know who delivered Caleb and may have been Orrin’s destination; Ava forces Lucas to join the search.
