  1. Chapter41

    The Voice Inside the Box

    That same night

Mara uses the witness terminal to authenticate herself as a living source witness and explicitly refuses destination and bridge assignment, while preserving Daniel’s separate refusal and returning the Listener’s copied declarations to Blackwater. The route remains active, however, and the console reveals a new outgoing-authorization control just as a mainland emergency line begins ringing.

  2. Chapter42

    The Line That Waited

    That same night

Mara identifies the ringing mainland line as Harbor Cairn’s acknowledgment request and refuses to answer with speech. She sends Subject One’s separately preserved original statement through the new open-circle control, establishing a destination-free collective route that Harbor Cairn can verify while holding the field response at Blackwater. The control succeeds, but it also exposes the source to seven additional receivers seeking access.

  3. Chapter43

    Seven Copies

    That same night

Mara sends Subject One’s original witness statement to all seven requesting receivers, keeping every destination and bridge blank and holding field responses at Blackwater. All seven acknowledge the genuine record, while the Listener’s copied breathing remains attached as unverified; the final notice marks one receiver as having a live source available.

  4. Chapter44

    The Open Microphone

Several minutes after the seven receivers acknowledge the record

Mara identifies the live mainland receiver as Coastal Emergency Dispatch Booth Three, where dispatcher Tamsin Rusk is on shift. When Tamsin’s voice comes through the open channel, Mara returns it as an unverified attachment while preserving Subject One’s testimony and holding the response at Blackwater; the live source remains available, and Tamsin must decide what to do at her console.

  5. Chapter45

    The Quiet Disposition

    That same night

Mara leaves the open route in place so Tamsin can act, while keeping every response held at Blackwater. Tamsin locally mutes Booth Three, disputes her copied voice, preserves Subject One’s testimony, and sends a signed paper receipt confirming that no response will be dispatched; the wider route and the Listener’s access to her copied voice remain active.
